Henna

It's that time of year again for me, summer! And what do I like to do in summer? Well, henna of course. The henna plant (“lawsonia inermis”) is a tree that grows in hot arid climates. The leaves of this plant are harvested, dried and ground into a fine powder. Then the powder is made into a paste and used to dye skin, hair and even your fingernails. I usually just use it to dye my hands and feet. The skin on your palms and soles of your feet is much thicker and takes in more ink. The skin on the back of your hand, arm, neck and other parts is thinner and the color doesn't come out as well.

I love doing henna, and usually buy some prepackaged brands, but have been researching it a little more and am becoming a little more knowledgeable about the subject.

I also grabbed a better applicator at Deseres the other day. I can't wait for my Henna to rub off so I can redesign my hand with thinner lines.

Halifax Crafters Festival

Here's a glimpse of the Halifax Crafters Festival. It was at the Olympic Community Centre on May 5th and 6th, 2012. We had a great time meeting local crafters and getting a lot of inspiration. I wanted to buy just about everything. I can't wait to see what it's like next year, and who knows, maybe I'll set up a booth and sell... well, maybe I'll think of something to sell first. :S

Graphic Designers Party

So at the end of the year we had a great time at our classmates house. Most of my graphic design classmates decided to come out and we had a great time eating and drinking and laughing. Here's a cupcake in the shape of the Ai (Adobe Illustrator) icon. Loved it. The classmate who created these gems with her sister is very talented and the cupcakes were a huge hit at the party!
I am in love with cooking. Usually every Sunday I sit down with a cookbook or find one of my favorite chefs websites and plan some exciting meal that I haven't tried before. Then I head out to the grocery store to gather supplies and am off on a culinary adventure. I'm not sure if I want to add my food adventures to this blog, but I think it might happen.

So here is my spice collection. I love having individual containers that look very pretty on a shelf. One of my favorite chef's, Chef Michael Smith, has a dream pantry on his television show Chef at Home. I ogle it every time he pops in for an ingredient. He usually stores his spices in mason jars, which is a much more cost effective way compared to most of the jars pictured in my photo. I did get some of these jars from the dollar store, but now I have a mix of the two. I'll admit, I'm a mason jar fanatic. (Thanks Pinterest!)

Linocut Project

One of my teachers introduced us to the loveliness that is lino-cut. I can't say how much I love this. Here are some birthday cards and cute stamps I made.

St. Paddy's Day Knitting

So every year I get an urge to knit. It's a fleeting urge, and if I can get through my usual scarf challenge, I'm very pleased with myself. So, fast forward to St. Patricks Day. Here I was, sitting at home, with most friends being at work, and I wasn't about the waste the day without getting my creativity going, and maybe a beer as well.

I never did finish that scarf, but it's waiting for me for next winter when I want some busy work.

Operation get organized for Christmas!

So it's July... and maybe I've been a little slack on my blogger self. Erg. Sorry about that. I think I just got wrapped up in school and friends and life. But I've really missed it and I think I'm back for good.

To prove just how dedicated I am, I'm going to post um... everything you've missed during the past year. That's right, the entire year!! Pretty darn amazing eh. So here goes!

Here is a photo of my Christmas mission. My mission was to get organized. I inherited all my mothers Christmas items, and just like me, she LOVED Christmas. Having to sort through everything was pretty daunting, but in the end I tackled the challenge and came out victorious.

My favorite part of this was the labels. I made them look worn and old and adorable. Each box got a label on 2 or three sides with detailed named of what each box contained. When I get home, I'll upload a closeup of my label design!
